Welcome to Radio Lion King, hosted by The Lion King World Wide Web Archive, and serving up streaming songs from Live 365 and now Rhapsody as well. Radio Lion King contains all the songs from all eight official Lion King CDs released so far as well as other Lion King songs found on other official Disney releases. Additionally, you can find other songs by artists who have contributed to the Lion King soundtracks (including Angelique Kidjo, Lebo M., and Ladysmith Black Mambazo), songs from other Disney movies and more. The songs are arranged in no particular order (you won't be able to listen to a whole CD straight through) but at least every third song will be a Lion King one. The station features celebrity DJ Justin Reese.

Along with Live365 and Rhapsody, Radio Lion King supports the rights of artists to receive royalties for their song writing and performances.

Updates

February 11, 2014 - Added several songs from Frozen. I think four are in the playlist now but there are 11 tracks in total that could show up including one from the bonus disc. Also, I added in a number of songs a few months back but forgot to mention here what they were and now I don't remember. Sooooo, anyways, it's been 14 years since I started this station and it seems to be going strong. When I logged into it just now to add the Frozen songs it said there had been 497 listening hours in the last 30 days. That's not too bad.

May 28, 2012 - Added two songs from the recent Winnie the Pooh movie and two songs from Cars 2. Also added a couple Disney cover songs by the ska/punk band Suburban Legends.

June 15, 2010 - Added two songs from Toy Story 3.

January 26, 2010 - I've been getting a number of up-and-coming artists contacting me asking me to add some of their songs to the station. The most recent one I've added is "Dream" by Ly'Asia, a 9 yr.old rapper. You can even see a YouTube video for it here.

November 24, 2009 - Okay . . . finally get stuff working like I want it to. Several things changed today: the music will be slightly better quality, the playlist will be much different, and there are now songs from The Princess and the Frog in the main playlist. There's still work to be done so stay tuned for more cool stuff on the way.

November 4, 2009 - For those who still check here I just wanted to say that I still run the radio station. Many of the problems I have dealt with in the past are finally getting cleared up and I was just granted more storage space to store new songs so there is definitely some new stuff coming.

May 27, 2009 - Just added "The Spirit of Adventure" from Pixar's UP to the Easy Listener. This is the song that plays as the movie is winding down and going to the credits.

February 13, 2009 - It's almost a year later and I'm still having trouble adding new songs to my Live365 playlist. The temporary solution I am using now is to have extra songs available in the new Yahoo! Easy Listener seen above. At the moment there's a couple songs related to The Lion King, and songs from Enchanted, Meet the Robinsons, and Ratatouille, with more to come from even more recent animated movies. There may never be as many songs in the Easy Listener as there are in the Live365 station but it makes a good spillover resource.

March 9, 2008 - To those who are paying attention to this space here I just wanted to add that I have been having all sorts of trouble being able to upload new songs to the station, too many problems to list here. But with changes coming to Live365 soon that may all change and, in fact, the overall audio quality of all the songs on the station is likely to improve. If you've been waiting for new songs to be added here please be patient and things should be better in about two months or so.

February 16, 2008 - To those who are paying attention to this space here I just wanted to add that there will be some new songs in the playlist soon. Probably within a week. Thanks for listening. My stats show that the station is still very popular.

April 10, 2007 - Okay, I guess I'm able to add new songs again now. Just added in one song from Meet the Robinsons and a couple Lion King-related treats. Also, made some extensive changes to the playlist because it had kind of stayed the same for quite a while.

April 7, 2007 - Trying to add new songs but for some reason none of the software I have now wants to rip songs from CDs into mp3 formats. Also, Live365 may soon become too expensive for me to keep going. Hopefully these two obstacles are overcome soon.

January 4, 2007 - Added in several songs from the Fox and the Hound 2 soundtrack.

October 3, 2006 - Added in the three bonus songs from the Little Mermaid Special Edition soundtrack that was released today along with the 2-Disc Platinum Edition DVD of the movie.

August 24, 2006 - Added two songs from the Brother Bear 2 soundtrack. Stay tuned because there's more great stuff coming to Radio Lion King. I'm going to start playing around more with different playlists including having playlists that are devoted to a particular Disney movie. The first one should have lots of rare material related to The Jungle Book and I'm thinking the second one will focus on Lilo and Stitch.

July 1, 2006 - Added some songs from the Tarzan: The Broadway Musical soundtrack.

June 15, 2006 - Added some songs from the CARS soundtrack. Have added some other material lately that I haven't mentioned including songs from Disneymania 4.

February 23, 2006 - A couple songs from the Bambi II soundtrack, including a Bruce Broughton song that didn't make it into the movie, may now appear in the playlist from time to time. Total playing time is at about 9 hours. The station has also hit a record of 1509 listening hours in the last 30 days which blows the previous record of 775 out of the water. This means that a lot of people are tuning in and listening for a long time. A big thank you to all the listeners for making this a successful station. Tell your friends about it and remember you can always let me know of any suggestions for the station.

January 18, 2006 - A couple songs from Hoodwinked may now appear in the playlist from time to time. Total playing time is at about 8 hours 17 minutes.

November 23, 2005 - Added three songs from Chicken Little. If you haven't seen the movie yet you might wonder what is going on when two of the songs start. Total playing time is at about 5 hours 49 minutes.

September 4, 2005 - Still trying to build the station back up after the crash a couple months ago (and a smaller crash a couple weeks ago), so it's going to be hard to chronicle all of the stuff that gets added but there are now some songs in there from Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch and every once in a while the soundtrack for a Disneyland ride may appear in the playlist. Of course, there's more new stuff and old stuff on the way and right now the total playing time is at about 3 hours 45 minutes.

July 5, 2005 - ANOTHER UPDATE ON THE SERVER SITUATION - Live365 has e-mailed and said that Radio Lion King is one of the stations that lost all of their files and they cannot be recovered. This means that I have to start all over again. So instead of over fourteen hours of music there is currently only a little over an hour. But I will slowly be adding more and it will end up sounding different than before but still very Disney and still very Lion King. To make up for the inconvenience I'm going to try to add some stuff first that has never appeared yet on Radio Lion King. Thanks for listening and remember you can always e-mail comments or suggestions and participate in discussion about the station at its message board.

July 5, 2005 - A couple days ago Live365 experienced some server trouble and it caused all the songs on this station to be deleted. They said they are working on everything and hope to be able to have it all restored but it is taking them longer than they said it would. Now all that is appearing are the three Bambi songs uploaded about a month ago. Hopefully they can restore everything else because this station represents five years worth of work and I'm not sure if I'll be able to hunt down all the songs again. If they can't restore everything then I'll have to try to build everything up again but it won't happen all at once.

July 1, 2005 - There's now a few songs that will appear from time to time from the second Aladdin: The Music Behind the Magic CD. These are demos from when Aladdin was early in production and the story was going to be a little different.

June 7, 2005 - Added in three more songs from the Bambi soundtrack. "Little April Shower" has already been in the playlist, in one form or another, for quite some time now.

May 6, 2005 - Added in several songs from the Madagascar soundtrack.

May 2, 2005 - Added in eight songs from the Classic Disney: Volume II CD, including the original versions of "When You Wish Upon a Star," "Everybody Has a Laughin' Place," "So This is Love," and "Let's Go Fly a Kite." I should add that the station started five years ago this month and was one of the original stations on Live365.

April 8, 2005 - Added in several songs from the Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron soundtrack.

March 23, 2005 - Have been adding some tracks from Disc 1 of Disney's new On the Record CD. This is a new theatrical production showcasing 80 years of Disney music.

March 9, 2005 - Added a handful of songs from The Emperor's New Groove to the playlist. The time it takes to listen to everything on the station without repeating is currently 13 hours 48 minutes.

March 3, 2005 - A song or two from The Rescuers Down Under now may appear in the playlist from time to time.

February 23, 2005 - Added several songs from the new Disneymania #3 CD.

February 19, 2005 - Added in a few songs from the Lilo and Stitch: Island Favorites CD.

February 4, 2005 - Added in a few songs from the Mulan II soundtrack. Also, for the first time since this station has started I have completely rearranged the order of the songs on the playlist. This may not sound like much but it is actually hard to do it so that the order is interesting, not repetitive, and still meets the requirements for a legal broadcast.

February 1, 2005 - Added in two songs from the Treasure Planet soundtrack.

January 25, 2005 - Added in a version of "He Lives in You" by Diana Ross and the Supremes.

December 19, 2004 - Added Michael Crawford's medley of "Circle of Life," "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," "Shadowland," and "He Lives in You."

December 1, 2004 - Added a sort of loungy, piano version of "Endless Night" performed by Lee Lessack as well as some other Disney songs (stuff from Peter Pan, Hercules, etc.). The time it takes to listen to everything on the station without repeating is currently 13 hours 5 minutes.

November 22, 2004 - Added a few new Aladdin songs, including the demo of "Proud of Your Boy," which was deleted from the original Aladdin movie, "Forget About Love" from The Return of Jafar, and the reprise of "Arabian Nights" from Aladdin and the King of Thieves. All the Aladdin songs now show up on the playlist in the order they appear in the movies. The time it takes to listen to everything on the station without repeating is currently 12 hours 46 minutes.

November 15, 2004 - Added a song from Alice in Wonderland and a song from Pirates of the Caribbean. Also starting to add in some Christmas songs which will play through to the end of December. And, yes, there is more Lion King stuff coming too.

November 10, 2004 - Added in "Human Again" from the Beauty and the Beast: Special Edition soundtrack and a couple Disney songs performed by jazz great Louis Armstrong. Also took out "Poor Unfortunate Souls" from The Little Mermaid since it seemed like everyone would sign off of the station whenever that song came on. Remember that you can always e-mail and say what songs you like or don't like or songs you'd like to see added and you can also discuss all this on the Radio Lion King message board.

November 4, 2004 - Added in six songs from several Pixar movies and their sequel soundtracks.

October 30, 2004 - Added in three songs from The Incredibles. The time it takes to listen to everything on the station without repeating is currently 12 hours 8 minutes.

October 28, 2004 - Added in Circle of Life by the Disney Channel Circle of Stars and a couple non-Disney songs. The time it takes to listen to everything on the station without repeating is currently 11 hours 54 minutes.

October 3, 2004: Added approximately a dozen songs from the Disney's Greatest: Volume 3 CD, including songs from Return to Never Land, Toy Story 2, The Tigger Movie, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Beauty and the Beast, The Fox and the Hound, Mary Poppins, Lady and the Tramp, Dumbo, and Pinocchio. The time it takes to listen to everything on the station without repeating is currently 11 hours 28 minutes.

September 27, 2004: Added a link to a discussion board that has been set up for the station. Plus, there are more songs on the way.

September 15, 2004: I recently stumbled across the fact that American Idol's William Hung has two Lion King songs and a Tarzan song on his new CD entitled Inspiration, so to be a completist I have added these songs to the potential playlist but no more than one of them will ever be on the actual playlist at a time. The time it takes to listen to everything on the station without repeating is currently 10 hours and 58 minutes.

September 3, 2004: Five songs from the Aladdin soundtrack have been added today.

August 25, 2004: Four new songs from The Three Musketeers and several other Disney songs have been added today. Three new Lion King songs (never before heard versions of He Lives In You, We Are One, and Circle of Life), have also been added. Also, songs from Brother Bear, Home on the Range, and more songs from the Festival of the Lion King have been added since the last update.

May 26, 2004: Twelve new non-Lion King songs and one new song from The Lion King 1½ have been added today.

May 3, 2004: For the first time in about two years we are in the process of uploading new songs to the station, including songs from The Lion King 1½, the Festival of the Lion King from Disney's Animal Kingdom, Hans Zimmer's The Wings of a Film, and other Disney movies such as Lilo and Stitch. Several have been added already and more are on their way, including music from Brother Bear, and Home on the Range.

Live365 VIP Membership

Rhapsody

For those with Rhapsody memberships we have a new Radio Lion King playlist there that you can play right here. It's different from the Live 365 playlist; it does have some overlap but still has its own unique character. I'll be adding more to this playlist as time goes on. If you don't have a membership (and we recommend having one) you can still play 30-second previews of the songs:

E-mail kiara@lionking.org if you have any comments or suggestions for the station.
